Stores were very different back in 1973 along with the merchandise. Back then you could easily see over each of the store aisles, as the top of the displays were only about chest height, where as now they go all the way to the ceiling. One distinct memory I have of K-mart is walking in to find a whole aisle of these Zing-Wings featuring an array of heroes from DC, Marvel, and Planet of the Apes. They were colored red, blue, green, and neatly stacked fresh from the box. An enticing sight for a 10 year old ready to spend his allowance.
The only thing that was slightly off was the design of the Ahi Spider-man Zing-Wing. It looked as though some high school art student tried copying the cover of the previous year’s Spider-man: A Rockomic album cover. That album cover design was created by Jazzy John Romita Sr., and whom then I considered to be the best Marvel Spidey artist that ever lived. Still this Spider-man frisbee, even with it’s inferior artwork was still bought by yours truly. Sadly my original frisbee has since lost it’s luster, sticker, and developed a million scratches over the years from bouncing off the pavement. So here are the Ahi Spider-man Zing-Wings, I have collected since then still mint fresh in the original packaging! Enjoy!
