So the story goes that Marvel was seeking more toy licenses back in the early seventies, and a company called Azrak-Hamway, or AHI was more than happy to oblige. The one stipulation they wanted was for Spider-man to have his own vehicle much like what Batman had. Stan Lee gave the go ahead in 1974, and AHI started manufacturing the “Spider-Buggy”, just as the buggy was making its first appearance in issue #130 of The Amazing Spider-man. The toy also had the significance of being the first Spider-man toy car to be remote controlled, and one of many toys in a long line of Spider-man AHI products that were produced.
